The Miami Design Preservation League is proud to announce “Noel Suarez: Artist-in- Residence”, a five-part public exhibition series celebrating a nearly 40-year creative journey of one of Miami Beach’s pioneer artists. The residency kicks off with an opening on Thursday, June 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
For nearly 15 years, Noel Suarez traveled the world as an Artist-in-Residence aboard Oceania Cruises, exhibiting his work internationally. Now, Noel returns home to Miami Beach, where MDPL invites the public to experience his remarkable paintings, attend presentations and live demonstrations, and engage directly with his artistic process.
Throughout the residency, Noel will create new works live on-site, allowing visitors to witness the evolution of his creative vision in real time. The series will also feature art classes, lectures and interactive events exploring artistic movements, technique and the enduring influence of the human form in art.
The first exhibition, “Not a Retrospective“, traces Noel’s artistic evolution from 1982 to the present, highlighting his passion for Art Deco, modernism, classical art and figurative work. Several featured pieces are returning from private collections that the artist himself has not seen since their creation in the 1980s. The exhibition will include live painting demonstrations, audience Q&A sessions and two classes on “Understanding the Human Form,” focused separately on the face and body.
Additional exhibitions throughout the residency will include in this order:
• “Evolving Through Influences” examines the artistic movements and personal inspirations that shaped Noel’s work, from Art Deco to figurative Cubism.
• “Miami Beach Pioneer Artists” honors the artists, creatives and preservationists who helped protect Miami Beach’s historic architecture, including MDPL founders Barbara Capitman and Leonard Horowitz.
• “Creating with a Purpose” explores Noel’s theatrical background as a ballet dancer, costume and set designer, and his visual contributions to organizations and events nationwide.
• “Evolution of Influences” is a collaborative exhibition exploring the connection between Noel’s work and the Art Deco painter Tamara de Lempicka. This final exhibition will also feature the unveiling of Noel’s large-format painting “Los Inmigrantes” and a preview of his forthcoming book.
Visitors will enjoy lectures exploring the evolution of the human form in art along with hands- on classes such as “Recreating the Masters,” “How to Create a Logo” and “Reinterpreting the Human Form.
” MDPL is pleased to welcome the public to this exciting series of exhibitions, classes and public programs celebrating creativity, preservation and artistic evolution.
